Her talent, composure and stage presence belie her youthful 17 years. But the word "charisma" certainly applies. As judge Randy Jackson says, the girl has "Yo Factor". And, oh, how that 1,000 watt smile lit-up the stage at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Now, Jordin Sparks is the new American Idol.
She is the youngest winner in the six seasons of this blockbuster entertainment series. And she garnered more than half of the whopping 74 million votes that were logged by Idol fans the night before.
While most would think that teenage boys and girls are the major force behind the audience ratings and voting numbers, many of those votes actually came from families who gathered around their TV sets to share the experience together. Sparks, a wholesome high-school student with B+ average and stable family, attracted that very audience. The FOX producers couldn't be more pleased.
So now, Jordin Sparks earns a million dollar recording contract, appearances on every major talk show in America and endless possibilities to become a future superstar. Her achievement on American Idol started with a great voice and grew with a magical smile - and now she's America's favorite new singing sensation.
Perhaps the lyrics from the famous Beatles tune, "I Saw Her Standing There", which was sung to Jordin by runner-up, Blake Lewis, during the opening of the Grand Finale show sums up how America feels about this charming young girl...
"Well, she was just 17. You know what I mean. And the way she looked Was way beyond compare!"
Congratulations, Jordin. You're America's new sweetheart.
