America's Magnificent
"Vacation Playground" for Dancers!
Dance ‘n Play is a different kind of Swing
event. It combines exciting competitions, outstanding workshops and a wide
array of resort vacation activities. It’s exactly what it advertises – a
place to Dance and to Play.
Dance ‘n Play is held at the scenic Eagle Crest Resort, an idyllic lodge
located in the soft rolling hills of Redmond, Oregon. The word “blissful”
is an understatement. Here you can experience a wonderful variety of
outdoor adventures like horseback riding, white water rafting, canoeing,
rock climbing, golf, tennis, bicycling, waterskiing, and jet skiing. You
can even rent a boat and explore Lake Chinook which is surrounded by
walled canyons, or hike the trails along the Cascade Mountains with views
of volcanic peaks, or visit the Tumolo Waterfall. It’s incredible here.
And there's free transportation for outdoor activities.
OK, that’s jut the backdrop. Now for the event itself. For “Dance ‘n
Play”, Director Cheryl Lyons has assembled an array of top teaching Pros
who offer workshops in West Coast Swing and a variety of other
dances. There’s
even sessions in Yoga. The workshops provide valuable tips for competitors
with the emphasis on West Coast Swing Jack & Jill competitions. There's
lot's of private lesson time, social dancing and activities with the Pro
Staff. This is a family friendly event and a great opportunity for you to
be for your vacation.
For its inaugural year, Cheryl brought in top Pros like Michael Kiehm,
Mary Ann Nunez, Barry Jones, Patty Vo, Michael Kielbasa, Gary Jobst, Jim
Minty, Doug Silton, and Katie Schneider. In 2013 the staff will include
even more stars. Competitive divisions include Jack & Jill Novice,
Intermediate and Advanced. It’s a low-pressure event that focuses on
workshops, social dancing and numerous outside activities.
There are 4 workshop rooms and 10,000 sf of ballroom space.
As for Cheryl, her dance resume is formidable. She has held roles as a competitor, instructor,
judge, and event director. She’s done it all. Her long-term goal is to build
“Dance ‘n Play” into a major convention with the special incentive of
having dancers arrive a week early to enjoy a vacation adventure and take
fullest advantage of all the unique outdoor activities offered here. As
Cheryl says, “At this convention you Dance and Play - and have a great
time doing BOTH.” That’s what it’s all about.
So, if you’d like to attend a multi-faceted dance event that is held at a
beautiful 1,700 acre vacation resort at the foot of the Cascade Mountains,
visit the
www.dancenplay.com website and plan to attend. It’ll be an
experience you won’t forget.

It's a Swing event, but the cool about
it, is they are also mixing Salsa, night club 2 and hustle more than in
other events I've been to. The workshops are also more uniquely titled to
prepare students for competition dancing and higher level social. The
event offers so many cool other activities. - Michael Kiehm
