Shall We Dance (2004)

A workaholic's lawyer's life and marriage take an unexpected twirl when he becomes inspired by a beautiful instructor at a Chicago dance studio and becomes a clandestine ballroom dance competitor.  Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez and Susan Sarandon star in this American remake of the 1997 Japanese film.  Same basic plot, contemporary scenes, great soundtrack.

Dirty Dancing - Havana Nights (2004)
18 year-old Katey Miller moves to Havana with her parents in 1958. She defies their social standards by falling in love with Javier, a waiter and fabulous Latin dancer. Secretly meeting, the pair practice for a prestigious dance competition. But Castro's revolution spells trouble for their plans. Diego Luna, Romola Garai, Sela Ward star. Rich cinematography and  stirring Latin music enrich the plot.  Expect a sequel set in Miami.

You Got Served (2004)

Save the Last Dance (2001)
Sara wants nothing more than to make it into New York's Julliard School of dance. But when tragedy strikes and she loses her mom, her hopes are dashed. She moves to an inner-city school and learns Hip-Hop from Derek, a street-smart and book-smart dance star, and falls in love again with dance - and Derek - while each tries to overcome personal obstacles of career, family and friends.  Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas star.

Dance With Me (1998)
Young Cuban, Rafael Infante, comes to Houston to work at a dance studio owned by John Burnett - who turns out to be his father. There, he falls for former Ballroom Champion, Ruby Sinclair, who is preparing for one last shot at the title.  When her dance partnership goes bad, Rafael steps in and carries the day. Vanessa Williams, Cheyanne and Kris Kristofferson star. Extras include Robert Royston & Laureen Baldovi.

Strictly Ballroom (1992)
This offbeat, crowd-pleasing, highly-acclaimed Australian movie is a spoof about the ego and politics of the Ballroom Dance World.  It focuses on a competitive ballroom dancer and his inexperienced, ugly-duckling partner who rises to the challenge of competing at the highest level. Dirty Dancing (1987)
Baby meets Johnny Castle who teaches dance at a family Summer Camp and "dirty dances" with the other dancers in his off-hours. She learns a routine to fill-in for Johnny's regular partner who is recovering from a medical procedure, and eventually becomes Johnny's lover. As the summer winds down, each must come to grips with personal responsibility and love - and others' expectations. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray star.

An American in Paris (1951)
American in Paris is one of the greatest, most elegant, and most celebrated of MGM's 50s musicals, with Gershwin lyrics and musical score that earned 6 Academy Awards. Jerry Mulligan, a struggling American painter in Paris, is "discovered" by an influential heiress with an interest in more than his art. Jerry falls for Lise, a young French girl already engaged to a cabaret singer, and romantic complications abound. One of the film's highlights is its finale - an ambitious, colorful, imaginative, 13 minute avante-garde "dream ballet" costing a half million dollars to produce. Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron star in this Vincent Minnelli movie classic.

Shall We Dance (1937)
Ballet star, Pete "Petrov" Peters, arranges to cross the Atlantic aboard the same ship as the dancer he's fallen for but barely knows - musical star, Linda Keene. By the time the ocean liner reaches New York, a little white lie turns into a hot gossip item - that the two celebrities are secretly married. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers star in a movie laden with great Gershwin tunes and sensational dance choreography.
